Rifles:Turkish Mausers: incredibly inexpensive, but there are some real frankenstein rifles out there. Surplus ammo is plentiful but some of it is pre-WW2 and I've hit a lot of misfires. The action is...

Re: thoughts on inexpensive ($200 or less) arms

druid, I think your only problem would be failure to feed the 7.62X39 from the mag well. It probably would work fine as a single shot though.

Re: thoughts on inexpensive ($200 or less) arms

ive actually been doing some research on that problem, and the people who make the insert put me in contact with a guy (one of their customers) who has a solution that he says works. i believe it...

Re: thoughts on inexpensive ($200 or less) arms

Seems like getting it to feed would not be that difficult, but can you trust the insert to stay put, during heavy firing? Seems like that could fail at the worst possible time. The Spanish Mausers in...

Re: thoughts on inexpensive ($200 or less) arms

They just want to nail them to some boards to put them on the wall. To gander at. The guns ain't as cheap as they were but even a dark bore mauser or mosin is akkrit enough to kill a deer or better...

Re: thoughts on inexpensive ($200 or less) arms

Often dark bores have no effect on accuracy. Even dark pitted bores, with good sharp rifling will shoot good.I know of a VZ24, with dark bore, that outshoots my unissued M48A with brand-new, pristine...

Re: thoughts on inexpensive ($200 or less) arms

Got that right. My Mosins shoot darn well (far better than I'd been lead to believe they would). They all have not-so-shiny bores, and the grooves have noticable longitudinal striations all down the...

Re: thoughts on inexpensive ($200 or less) arms

I have a pre-war German K98 rifle which cost me just about $200 since the numbers on it are matched. It's highly reliable and accurate. The main problem is the ammo. The cheap ammo is corrosive, but...

Re: thoughts on inexpensive ($200 or less) arms

Next time you throw ammo away, throw it my way! That Turk works fine in my M48, even with the necks splitting sometimes. I've shot quite a bit and it's never froze my bolt.Klick out. Sat Cong!

Re: thoughts on inexpensive ($200 or less) arms

Yeah, I heard the Turk ammo works well in some Mausers - like Turkish ones and Yugo ones. Doesn't play nice in my German one, though. It just drove me NUTS. I figure, ah, hell, it's just two bandoleers...

Re: thoughts on inexpensive ($200 or less) arms

Oh I agree, does not sound like your rifle liked it at all.I do go through all my Turk when I first get it, and cull the REALLY bad ones out. But again, the M48 seems to digest it just fine. The Turk...

Re: thoughts on inexpensive ($200 or less) arms

Numrich is a good outfit. But right now I think they only have No 1 Mk III stocks. Still, it's worth giving them a call. They are great for all kinds of oddball gun parts, but the shipping will kill...

The rhino liner is an awesome idea. Tough and weatherproof. I was curious as to how it looks on a stock; I'm probably going to do that on my mauser project.Talon Out
